I have difficulty writing this without becoming emotional. I have disabling migraines and spinal issues that severely limit my ability to do physical and sometimes mental labor. I found myself in a position where my family would be moving and we also had a garage full of multi-generational “treasures” ;) I found Carly on Best of Olympia and I reached out because someone else mentioned that Carly was non-judgmental and for me, that was crucial. I judge myself harshly and struggle watching someone else do “my” work. I brought Carly in originally to help sort through and organize the garage and house in preparation for the move. From the very first hour I was incredibly impressed with Carly’s ability to “see” a task in all stages and set about a solid plan that made sense and wasted NO time. I quickly decided to ask for Carly’s help packing for the move and HOLY SMOKES was I blown away! Carly’s project management skills are A++! Carly took the reins for me and sorted, packed, labeled, and found places to donate the items we no longer needed. Carly planned, plotted, strategized, and prioritized so that when moving day came, the truck was loaded with the most important items going in first and Carly even helped to ensure that the folks packing the truck did so in a way to best keep our belongings safe and sound. All throughout this process, Carly even somehow found capacity to keep an eye out for me, check in to be sure I wasn’t overdoing it and reminding me that rest is crucial for me and ensured I felt NO judgement from needing to remove myself from the labor. Carly is incredibly ethical, trustworthy, hard-working, organized, and driven to serve. I ultimately asked Carly to drive my vehicle across state lines to my new home and unpack us. Carly organized the garage contents in the new home based on level of use, unboxed and put away the items to be kept and stored in the house, and created perfect organizational systems that utilized what we had on hand to minimize consumption and labeled inside storage so the contents could be easily identified.
What could have been an overwhelming and exhausting transition instead felt calm, intentional, and manageable because of Carly’s calming presence and incredible work ethic. Carly has an extraordinary ability to step into someone else’s life mid-chaos and bring order without ever making you feel small, embarrassed, out of control, or ashamed. She showed respect for my possessions, my space, my needs, my family, and my autonomy while still confidently leading the work when I needed someone to carry the load. As a side note: one of the many things I found incredible was that not once did we have disagreement, conflict, awkward feelings, or anything along those lines. In high stress situations such as these, to not have a single moment where I questioned my decision to bring Carly in to help is absolutely unheard of!
If you are dealing with chronic illness, disability, overwhelm, grief, or simply a life transition that feels too big to face alone, Carly is an absolute gift. She brings competence, compassion, and humanity into spaces that are often overloaded with shame or stress. Trusting someone with your home, your possessions, and your vulnerability is no small thing—and Carly earned that trust again and again. I cannot recommend Carly Austin of Space Mend highly enough.
